HOLIDAY FOOD BASKETS

In 2007 we moved 15 tons of nonperishable food, plus vouchers for perishables. We distributed this to 1325 people in 328 families. Because of the logistics involved with bypass construction going on in the Community center’s parking lot, in 2008 we decided to distribute food vouchers instead of bulky food boxes. More than 1400 hungry people in 342 families were able to select their own food at Bashas’. This project was partially funded by grants from the Pulliam Foundation, the Wellik Foundation, and contributions from local residents. We also distributed health and hygiene products paid for by the Vivian Arnao & Family Foundation. In 2009, because of the even more pressing need at lower income levels, we changed from 150% of the federal poverty level to 125%, and distributed vouchers and hygiene products to 333 families, 1528 people.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL CLOTHING

In 2009, we provided shoes and one new school outfit for 340 needy children in Wickenburg, Morristown, Wittmann, Aguila, and Congress.  This project was partially funded by grants from the Wellik Foundation, the Vivian Arnao Family Foundation, the WalMart Foundation, and contributions from local residents.

We took advantage of the Back-To-School distribution day to provide the children and their families with bath soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, laundry and dishwashing soap, etc., from the Arnao grant.

In August 2010, we provided new shoes and clothing for 300 children at 150% of the federal poverty level, funded by the late Hal Towne’s Wickenburg’s Own Have Fun Foundation, the Vivian Arnao and Family Foundation, and 101 local donors.

CAP

We provide thousands of dollars each year for emergency assistance to qualified individuals through the CAP Office: money for rent, utilities, prescriptions, fuel, etc. We provide a monthly stipend to help the food bank and to the Saguaro Janes, who run the food bank in Wittmann.

HEALTH AND HYGIENE PRODUCTS

We are responsible for a grant from the Vivian Arnao & Family Foundation, to provide health and hygiene products for the poor and homeless of the area. Qualified people need only ask at the CAP Office to receive toilet paper, shampoo, detergent, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other supplies that may be on hand. In addition to the hygiene products, this grant provided 6 pairs of underwear and socks for each child for the Back-To-School project in 2008 and 2009. We also distributed supplies during the holiday food basket event in 2008 and 2009.
